Norman Arthur Krumrey, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Cherished by family and friends alike, Norm will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for a life well-lived, filled with friendship, laughter, and unwavering dedication.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Joan; his children, John (Anne), Greg, Mary (Casey) Janik, Anne, and Susan (Tom) McLaughlin; grandchildren: Michael (Anne) Krumrey, Steven Krumrey, Sarah (Ross) Frye, Yvonne Krumrey, Mark, Thomas, Jack and Luke Janik, Brendan and Meghan McLaughlin and great-grandchildren: Jack and Keegan Krumrey, Clark, Hannah and Winston Frye.
Born on July 23, 1931, in Rock Hill, Missouri, to the late Norman Frederick and Lucy Krumrey, and preceded in death by his brother Gene (Carolyn) and sister Mary Ellen (Don) Harris, Norm’s first job was at the age of 13 at a local bakery, where Farotto’s Restaurant is now located. He graduated Norman A. Krumrey, Bellwether Class of 2014 from Coyle High School and joined the military before pursuing higher education at St. Louis University. There he earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, and he later completed his M.B.A. in Finance at Lindenwood University.
A Marine Corps veteran who served during the Korean War, Norm was extremely proud of the time he spent stationed at Camp Pendleton and no matter where he was - at a Cardinals game or even just walking down the street - if he encountered another Marine he would call out “Semper Fi,” which often resulted in a long conversation between the two. There were many stories about transporting celebrities to and from the base as well as challenges procuring supplies for the camp. He was the “Radar O’Reilly” of Camp Pendleton when he was there.
Norm enjoyed a distinguished career with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation, St. Anthony’s Medical Center, Normandy Osteopathic Hospital and The Joint Purchasing Corporation. He was a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and served as President of the St. Louis chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Management. In 1995, he was honored as the "St. Louis Purchaser of the Year." He co-authored a foundational textbook on purchasing principles - translated into multiple languages – and served as an adjunct professor at St. Louis University, Webster University, and St. Louis Community College.
He was a lifelong, active parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen in Brentwood, the same congregation as his parents, serving on steering committees and securing funds for church maintenance and renovations. He lent his expertise to numerous organizations, including The United Way, The Brentwood Library, Catholic Family Counseling and the St. Elizabeth Adult Day Care Centers.
A lover of St. Louis history, he served as a gallery attendant and tour guide for the Missouri History Museum and Forest Park. His dedication was recognized as recently as December 2025, when he and Joan, received the President’s Award for Outstanding Service from Explore St. Louis.
He also enjoyed his time as a member of the Professional Tour Guide Association and a Walk Leader for Metro Transit’s Ten Toe Express. In addition, he volunteered in the information booths at the St. Louis Convention Center, Union Station, Lambert Airport and the Visitors Center in Forest Park.
A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Norm attended close to 25 games annually, once making it to 38 games in a season, and never missed Opening Day. Many of his favorite memories were made at the ballpark and on the Cardinals Cruises, which were shared with family and friends. At home, Norm was happiest at his workbench, showing off his meticulously cared-for home, or sharing stories over a cocktail.
